    Requisition
By enabling requisition entry from numerous sources using a multitude of methods, AutoLims® turns one of the most tiresome and error-prone steps in the laboratory work process into a simpler, faster and more accurate one.

A requisition can take place at a doctor's office, a clinic or a hospital ward, at the patient service center or at the laboratory itself. (To learn more about our remote site capabilities, see the AutoReach section). A requisition can be entered by OMR or bar code reading, by choosing tests from a graphic selection window, keying-in codes or numbers, or by processing requisitions via electronic media, such as e-mail or plain text files in HL-7 format.

    Samples and Shipments
As the modern clinical laboratory evolves, the number and type of samples required for performing a test are various and extensive. Incorrect sampling is likely to be followed by the inability to perform the required tests, loss of time and materials and worst of all - a dissatisfied customer. Based on definitions from the laboratory providing the service, the AutoLims® phlebotomy station can recommend the required sample for each requisition. Once the relevant samples are collected, physical sample shipments can be initiated, accompanied by electronic (HL-7) and/or paper documentation.

    Routing & Communication
AutoLims® automatically assigns the tests to the appropriate instruments or workstations, generates the required work lists and transmits the data to the laboratory analyzers. Results can be retrieved either automatically or manually. In addition, AutoLims®' unique centralized communication server allows technicians to freely choose among analyzer groups, while saving time on analyzer-LIS synchronization.

AutoLims® also records all details of the specific analyzer that was used, along with the details of the original result in contrast with the processed result (applying dilution, accuracy digits, processing for semi-quantitative results, etc.) that is displayed for the client. Details of the tray and location on which the test was performed, the time the analyzer performed the test, the time the analyzer transmitted the results to AutoLims®, and analyzer comments are all recorded as well.

    Results Validation
Results can be confirmed automatically in accordance with guidelines defined by the laboratory (for example: the result is within user-defined ranges; did not fail delta or other user-defined quality-control checks, is within linear analyzer-test ranges and so on). In addition to automatic confirmation, AutoLims® provides two levels of manual confirmation, performed according to patient, test or workstation details, or any other selected criteria.

When manual approval is required, AutoLims® assists the user by presenting them with current and historical patient data using colors to focus attention on specific points of interest, as well as customizable views to maximize efficiency and facilitate specific work flow needs.

    Data Distribution

    Distribution and Repository
Once validated, results are distributed to various recipients automatically or on demand. Distribution can be performed through a variety of devices: printers (local or remote), e-mail messages (general or organization specific), files (local or network), fax transmissions, SMS to cell phones, PDA's and pagers. AutoLims® also supports many distribution policies and formats. Sophisticated distribution criteria together with setup-defined and user-selected distribution policies and media, enable delivery of results in a highly customized client specific manner. Complete tracking of every distribution action is also available. The data in the laboratory is collected into a data repository for future access, historical results analysis, patient records, delta check and so on. Connection to a centralized repository for data retrieval and synchronization is also possible.

    Powerful Reporting Capabilities
AutoLims® offers a variety of reports, enhanced by a dynamic report generator. The format of these reports can be determined by the user, and can also be adjusted to suit a specific test or client. The laboratory can define and produce trailers of distribution summaries, as well as summaries of critical values and automatic cumulative graphs. All is provided via XML/XSL flexible reporting mechanisms.
